Notes on our First Meeting

Date: Wednesday, September 1, 2010
Time: 6:00pm - 7:45pm
Location: Barnes & Noble Bookstore
Number Attending: 5

This would be classified as a general meeting, wherein the participants were asked to share their various experiences explaining how they had come to participate in the Zeitgeist Movement. There were 5 very distinct narratives presented, at least one of them being emotionally moving, at least to me personally. A large portion of the discussion was dominated by religion and its various implications and peculiarities. In this region of the world, religion has been a powerful bio-social pressure and it's effects were discussed on the attendees. Armando Lopez, the general organizer of this meeting, discussed at length his experiences in the world of academia and how he has come to recognize the effects of the monetary system on himself, his family and his students.

The latter portion of the meeting concerned making plans for the next meeting and discussion of formalizing an official student group both at South Texas College and at University of Texas - Pan American. We came to the conclusion that a reserved room with audio/visual projection capabilities would be ideal, and the creation of a student group can ensure we maintain access to those resources. The next general meeting will be on Wednesday, October 6th, most likely at the STC campus. We will be screening the Movement Orientation Video for the new members who have not yet viewed it. We may also be holding smaller informal meetings throughout the month as well, but no concrete plans were developed. I will look forward to these and other future meetings with the newly formed RGV chapter of the Zeitgeist Movement, and I hope that you join us.
